report of FC meeting and up-coming meetings...READ THIS.

28.02.08 - met with Steve Ayres from Forestry Commission1. Weekly inspections. The trails must be inspected every week and report sent to Forestry. Each trail must be visually inspected and ridden to check condition. Minor repairs to be made if possible, or trail closed if not repairable there and then. This is not somethhing that can be ignored, regardless of the weather or whatever. 2. I.D Cards: In order for ID cards to be issued, mug-shots need to be taken. 3. Insurance: Policy must be in place before re-development. Time to dip into those pockets guys...the more of you willing to chip in, the cheaper it'll be. 4. Full Inspection: whole track needs to be checked and any problem areas noted, such as slippery surfaces on northshore and jumps. 5. Bank Account: needs to be opened asap. need Adam and Jon to come to bank with me to provide signatures and ID...so spare an hour on Wednesday and this box can be ticked finally. 6. Chainsaws: there are special provisos for chainsaw use. This is only relevant to myself and Krchton...copy of NPTC certificate must be provided to Forestry and PPE inspected. Other requests/rules also apply and will be discussed with Forestry later. 7. Felling: The planned thinning of the trail area is set to take place around August. Until this work has been completed, trail building is on stand-by. See note on planning the new trails. 8. Taunton Freeriders Meeting: We need to get everyone together ASAP to discuss the organisation and future of the Taunton Freeriders project. We can do this at my place, out on a ride or another venue if required, but it needs to be done within the next two weeks, so let everyone know and come up with a date and time. I emplore everyone to attend. continued in replies.... 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

9. Meeting with Forestry 29.02.08: (time to be confirmed) Next meeting (at OP) to discuss Signs and other issues, and update on progress. Again, please please make it if you can, or pass on any questions you have.10. Planning re-development of trails: The forestry have kindly mapped the trails and this will be the basis of future trail designing. Any new lines and features must be approved and mapped before any work can be carried out. Until the felling work has been completed in late autumn there will be no building taking place. We can plan the new designs, measure up, and put rough lines in (the odd small berm is ok where its needed) but no jumps etc. This is for several reasons...the trails will be unavoidably damaged when felling work takes place, jumps etc need to be approved and signed off by civil engineer which is expensive, and would have to be done again after re-build. Also we need to have insurance and risk assessments in place first. The more input and ideas we can start throwing around the better the trails will be. When the weather and trail conditions improve I'd like to get some planning meetings happening....we all ride at different levels, a line that you can see might be invisible to everyone else. The last thing any of us want are trails that become dull within six months. of building... 11. The Forestry Commission are harvesting wood for building shore (slats) and looking into the various rules/guidlines for other materials and fixings. They are also looking into supplying some stone to improve the trail surface and drainage. There is also the possibility of their fencing contractor giving us a hand setting posts, which would make construction easier and quicker 12. Constitution and Memorandum of Understanding. These will be arriving soon and must be read and signed by all Taunton Freeriders members. 13. Motorbikes/quads: The Forestry are aware of the problem and are addressing it. continued... 14. Litter: Many thanks to the vast majority of people who take their litter home, but unfortunately there is a small but growing amount of litter on site. Please, if see any, pick it up and take with you...I know its annoying having to clean up after other people, but if we don't no-one else will and before long the Taunton Freeriders good reputation dwindles. Good public relations is very important and first impressions count. Thanks for taking the time to read this, get back to me with any queries and any dates/times you'll be free for Taunton Freeriders meeting and the up-coming & future meetings with the Forestry Commission. The ball is in our court now and its up to us to get organised so we can build some awesome trails and put Taunton riding on the map. Cheers guys. Andy. Do you find this valuable? |

hiya,RE: ID cards, do you want me to get in touch with a company (I work with) and look at costs? We should be able to do the mugshots ourselfs. RE: litter - would it be possible to get a bin up on the trails, maybe this would help to reduce the litter issue. RE: Forestry commission getting some materials sounds awesome, do we have any estimates on when and where and how much? Do we have to look at storage options or anything? RE: forestry commission rules on jumps: Is there a specific civil engineer we have to work with, or is any qualified civil engineer okay to verify the structures? May be worth looking for a civil engineer who rides :) Looks like a useful meeting, thanks for posting. ^licks^ Jamie & Lion Do you find this valuable? |

1. ID cards will be supplied by the Forestry Commission2. Bins will NOT be put on site. History shows they incur more litter problems. 3. Materials will be supplied as available. Storage will be on site. 4. The Forestry Commission have their own civil engineer. Hope that answers your queries, many thanks for the input. cheers. Do you find this valuable? |

They incur more littering? Well I'll be...Sounds good though, aside from the no-building-for-ages : ( Do you find this valuable? |

Its starting on 22 sept. Only got the call the other day. Have put posts around the place. If weather stays good, it should take 4-5 weeks ( then obviously repairing/rebuilding to be done). Daves track might stay open, will let you know. We'll have to get up to Triscombe for a few rides soon :)

Felling/harvesting is almost complete. I'm meeting with the Forestry Commission on Tuesday to discuss the new building work etc. Still wrestling with the bank to get the account up and running...they've now "miss-filed" all the paperwork. Going in tomorrow to try and get it sorted out once and for all. Full update on Tuesday evening :) Do you find this valuable? |

13. RE: Meeting...11.11.08

Met with Steve Eyres from the Forestry Commission. Harvesting has finished and, once paperwork, lease, and insurance is in place we can begin clearing up the site ready for planning the new builds. All the trails are in no fit state to ride. There is alot of brush/branches everywhere, ground has been churned up and most trails are pretty much buried. There is a great deal of work to be done. The Forestry Commission has completed it's guidelines/rules and regs for trail building which should make future planning/building much less of a muddle. I'm going to try and get bank account sorted this afternoon. Once it's open I'll pass on the details to all members so contributions can be paid in. It will be at least another month or two before any work can begin as insurance, lease etc must be in place first. I've started a forum thread on pinkbike.com to make it easier for us to stay in touch and get organized..http://www.pinkbike.com/forum/listcomments/?threadid=57580 Many thanks for all your continued patience...we're nearly there now, and once the ball is rolling again, things will progress much faster than in the past. Cheers. Do you find this valuable? |
