*The trails are currently under re-development.

We will endeavour to keep some trails open during the re-development, but please pay attention to notices and respect closures. Until the trails are officially open we will not be publicising the location. If you would like directions please get in touch.*

Please read the rules and regs on this website before riding/visiting the trails.

Formed in 2004, by local riders and trailbuilders, Taunton Freeriders is a community mountain bike project developing DH and Northshore style mtb trails.

We are proud to be in partnership with the Forestry Commission, who have provided land and technical support to ensure the trails are safe, challenging and fun... Accidents will happen though, so remember, wear a helmet, and know your limitations.

Although the main focus of Taunton Freeriders are the "OP" trails, we are also campaigning for better facilities such as skateparks and dirt-jumps in Taunton Deane. We are trying to gather all riders, campaigns, trails, and community groups together so we can really make a difference and get the facilities, support and recognition our sport deserves. We have already had success developing a Dirt Jump area at Rowan Drive Park in cooperation with TDBC and local riders. Please sign up and share your views, suggestions, campaigns and questions.

Hamilton Skatepark

As any Taunton rider/skater will tell you, Tauntons skatepark at Hamilton Park is, (to put it politely) falling apart and in desperate need of complete redevelopment.
The idea behind this page is to get everyone together who uses the skatepark or agrees that it needs investment so we can start a formal unified campaign to get facilities worthy of the County Town.

Liability warning notice
The trails are not suitable for novice cyclists without previous off-road Mountain Bike riding experience. We ask that you approach your riding with due caution, and ride within your limits and the limits of your equipment at all times. Riders use the trails strictly at their own risk at all times and we require that riders inspect all structures and obstacles before attempting to ride them.

Safety equipment
You will require safety equipment to use any of the trails, riders must have a Mountain Bike safety helmet (EN1078), gloves and knee/shin guards as the minimum. We strongly recommend that all riders wear full-body armour with chest and spine protection, knee/shin and elbow/arm guards, gloves, eye protection and a full-face Mountain Bike or Motocross helmet

Stay safe
We strongly advise that you don't ride the trails on your own, we encourage all riders keep an eye out for each other & provide assistance to other riders involved in accidents.

Trails
Do not under any circumstances alter or adapt any of the trails in anyway.
Any kind of ‘illegal building’ will result in a closure of the project and a whole heap of really really annoyed local riders, so please, just don’t do it!
If you find any broken woodwork or blown-out dirt sections, please inform us so that repairs can be made asap.
Please respect the environment around the trails and do not attempt to remove or modify any bushes, plants or trees, the trails have been carefully designed to work with their surroundings.

Trail etiquette
Never walk back up the trails, stop on a stunt or on the run-out of a trail or structure or you could cause a serious accident for any approaching rider.
Do not leave your bike on a trail or clear fall zone - unthoughtful actions can jeopardize the safety of other riders using the trails.
Please take your litter home.

Taunton Freeriders are a group of like minded souls, all interested in mountain biking in various forms, whatever discipline you love, be sure there's someone else just as interested.

The main focus of the group is the local freeride/downhill trail that is constantly under development by us in partnershp with The Forestry Commission, located a few miles South-East of Taunton. Sadly we are unable to advertise the presise location until the official opening in mid 2009. We're working hard to get all the trails and routes ready and improve access to the site. We are proud of the good relationship we have with the Forestry Commission and the local community, and we ask all riders to respect this and follow the country code, and generally be friendly and polite. In this day and age of X-box & couch potatoes, such an enjoyable outdoor activity deserves to be better represented and can yield huge benefits to those that otherwise may not get out into the countryside so much. So please have fun be safe and enjoy this beautiful world.

Welcome to the Taunton Freeriders Gallery.

We are currently busy shooting the local TF riders in action at various locations. Needless to say, when we stop having so much fun the gallery will be filled...thanks for your patience.

*Sadly many of the pics taken at the OP trails were lost in a catastrophic hardware failure (whirly thing with the wires coming out the back made funny grinding noise and whirred no more)...If anyone has any already on the web, and would like to see them in the gallery, please post a thread under this linking me to them. Many thanks...The editor.
